When you face an onslaught of enemy cavalry, you wield the MAA American Spontoon Spearhead against them with fierce anticipation. Made from 1055 high-carbon steel, this infantry halberd head is fully functional.

This polearm head features a blackened, three-pronged blade. It has a long, double-edged center point with smaller, single-edged points on the sides. Concave cutouts rest at the inside corners of the points. In the middle of each point, there is a cutout cross design. All points have sharpened edges.

At the bottom, the medieval spear head has a conical socket. Three ridges ring around the socket. This thick, ridged construction adds durability. The socket allows it to fit the haft of your choice or to replace the blade on the MAA American Spontoon (07-CS-89MD), sold separately. This man-at-arms polearm is ideal for reenactments and even just adding to any DIY project or weaponry collection.

Historical Info about Spontoons

While the spontoon was most popular in the 18th and 19th century, this spontoon works well across other centuries and eras as well, from the medieval to the Renaissance. It takes its design from a weapon used for a long period of time, including the beginning of the United States.

As time went on, the spontoon, or espontoon as it is sometimes called, became less of a weapon used against cavalry and more a symbol of authority and discipline. In fact, it was eventually carried solely by sergeants.
