Inspired by the Jomsviking mercenaries of the 10th and 11th Centuries, this chessboard is painted by hand to showcase an incredible amount of detail. The chessboard is crafted from polystone. Polystone is a resin composite that utilizes powdered stone to create a sculpture that is lightweight like resin, but designed with a wood-grain texture. This chessboard is sold as a single piece. Please note chess pieces are not included.

This Viking chessboard has brown and white tiles. The white tiles are blank. Each brown tile is carved with intricate knotwork for Norse style. Around the tiles are brown wood-like borders. These borders are carved to resemble the sea and the sky. On each side of the board are longships full of Jomsviking spearmen. The longships also have Viking shields with different patterns on the sides.

On each corner, there are round Viking shields with crossed battle axes. The shields are carved with Urnes-style knotwork, known for its labyrinthine style with coiling serpents, dragons, and other beasts. This knotwork is framed within a studded border. Both axes behind the shield are carved with knotwork on the blades.
