The Roman Gladius is one of the most famous sword designs, wielded by one of the most formidable fighting forces known in history. Reflecting the close ties between the military and the Arena, the word gladiator comes from the word gladius, which was the sword used by both the legionaries, the fighting might of the Roman Empire, and some of the gladiators who re-enacted Romes military successes. This handcrafted version of this famous design is made with hardwood throughout the pommel, grip, and guard. The grip is painted black, while the pommel and guard are left a contrasting natural wood. The blade is a very simple and classic straight design ending in a sharp V. Total length of this sword is 27 inches, and it has a 19.5 inch blade. The sheath is black leather over wood with beautiful brass fittings. Gladius and sheath are a little rough, because of the handmade nature.
