Epic Shieldmaiden Neck Armor – Ashen

The Ashen Epic Shieldmaiden Neck Armor protects your neck as you fiercely defend your kingdom from an oncoming enemy army. Made from 9-10-ounce leather, this black Valkyrie gorget comes in two sizes.

At the bottom of a V-shaped neckline, there is a bronze-colored strap joining the two sides together with snaps. It has an elegant knotwork pattern. Below the strap, the bottom edge of the gorget curves slightly downward into a point, creating an inverted scalloped shape.

Next, the gorget has a short collar that gets wider towards the back of the neck. On each side, the Viking armour protects the upper shoulders. Both the bottom edge and the shoulders have eyelets for attaching the Shieldmaiden Pauldrons (RT-529). There is more embossed knotwork in the form of circles at the bottom corners. Ashen-grey highlighting adorns the knotwork.

On the back of the gorget, the sides of the gorget curve down into a point in the center. There is a panel in the middle that also has that pointed shape. Knotwork adorns this panel as well. On either side of the middle panel at the bottom point, there is another pair of eyelets. Wear the shieldmaiden gorget to a reenactment, LARP event, or Renaissance faire. It truly suits a fierce warrior maiden.

Shieldmaidens and Valkyries

The mythical idea of the shieldmaiden, or female warrior, may have given rise to the idea of the Valkyrie, often known as a beautiful warrior woman who brings the souls of fallen warriors into Valhalla. They feature in various places in the Eddas and sagas.

One of the most famous Valkyries was Brunhild, renamed as such in Wagners Ring Cycle opera. Historical evidence for the existence of shieldmaidens is minimal.

Materials:

Care Instructions:

• Remove dirt with a hard brush, then gently clean with leather soap and a soft, damp cloth. Remove soap with a separate damp cloth, then use a dry cloth to wipe away remaining water. Let dry naturally. Condition with oil or polish, then wipe with a final cloth to remove excess residue.
