Reverent Renaissance Design
This ceremonial urn is sculpted from cold-cast bronze. Cold-cast bronze is a resin composite that utilizes powdered bronze to create a sculpture that is lightweight like resin, but possessed of a metallic bronze luster resembling gold. From the top to the bottom, the details on this urn are painted by hand with a passion for art. This urn has a functional storage compartment.
The design is inspired by the sculpture known as Pieta, which is also known as “Our Lady of Pity.” Sculpted by Michelangelo Buonarroti, a legendary artist from Tuscany, the Lady of Pity sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary cradling her son Jesus in her arms. This urn is a faithful replica of the centuries-old marble sculpture. Mary is sculpted with long, flowing robes for a cascading effect. A sash with Michelangelo’s signature is reminiscent of the real masterpiece, reading “Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Florentine made this” in Latin. Mary and Jesus are on a rocky platform.
Just underneath, the urn is lined with geometric trim at the top and bottom. In the center is a gold-colored cross with laurels on each side. These laurels form the shape of a crown. The laurel crown is a prominent symbol of power and victory, tracing its origins back to the Hellenic age. At the bottom, the urn has a small rectangular compartment that closes with a screw. Simply undo the screw and remove the compartment lid to access the inside.
