A close recreation of the famous Oakeshott Type XVIIIa.4 sword from Records of the Medieval sword, this Tourney Hand and a Half Knightly Sword has been modified slightly to make it safe for medieval reenactment and stage performance. The blade is forged from 9260 high carbon spring steel and is tempered to about 50 HRC, providing a long lasting sword. The 2mm rounded edge thickness, thru tang handle construction, and peened stainless steel pommel and guard make this tourney sword a brute on the battle field. The cord wrapped leather grip feels exceptional in the hand, with an oval cross section and a slight barrel shape to reduce fatigue. The grip is large enough to accommodate armoured hands. A respectable fuller runs the length of the blade to lighten and counter balance the sword overall. The guard features a peen under the grip that pierces the tang of the sword, preventing the guard from becoming loose without compromising the strength of the hilt. A wood core and leather wrapped scabbard tipped with a stainless steel chape holds the medieval sword when not in use. The Tourney Hand and a Half Knightly Sword proves to be a powerful sight on the field of battle and is a perfect accompaniment for a 14th to mid 15th century man of war.
