Designed by George Patton in the early 1900s, when he was still just a Lieutenant, this finely crafted sword was commonly attached to a troopers saddle. The tempered, high carbon steel blade was generally used as a thrusting weapon. Featuring a steel guard and a hard plastic handle, it is easy to grip and is solidly constructed. The Patton Sword features a single fullered blade and includes a wood scabbard with steel mounts. Windlass Steelcrafts have outdone themselves, this is better than the original.

I must first make a small correction regarding this sword; it is not 2 lbs. 8 oz. as stated in the description at time of writing this review, it is actually 3 lbs. 3.5 oz. according to my scale. With that said though, this sword is pretty nice and a decent replica of the Model 1913 cavalry saber. Even though 3 lbs. 3.5 oz. seems a bit heavy for a one-handed sword it feels much lighter than its weight would suggest since it has a point of balance close to the hilt making it feel light and nimble in the hand. Looking at pictures and stats of original Model 1913 sabers vs. this replica, you can see some parts where Windlass cut some corners in the shaping; it’s a little more crudely shaped than the original, a bit more heavy, and it seems that they use plastic for the handle when in the originals they seem to use some sort of metal. I didn’t get the sword sharp and rarely cut with swords in my collection, but for fun I tried to see if the sword could cut a cardboard box if dull and it actually could cut fairly deeply into the cardboard and held up. Put a sharp edge on it and it can probably cut quite well and make general Patton roll in his grave since he insisted so much on thrusting and not cutting… oh well. The scabbard is really nice and the sword fits snugly in it. Regarding Dark Knight Armoury’s service, it arrived to me in a timely fashion and the blade was well greased and in good condition upon arrival. No complaints there. Overall, I am very satisfied with purchasing this sword and it is now one of my favorite swords in my collection.
