Whether you’re fighting to defend the Empire from invading hordes or fighting to bring it down, the Nydam Spatha Sword is a worthy blade for your character’s story. This Spatha is excellent for barbaric warriors and Roman legionary characters alike.

Handmade with Historical Inspiration

Forged as one piece from C60 high-carbon steel, this Roman Spatha is a reproduction of those found in the Nydam bog located in Denmark, where numerous Iron Age and late Roman swords were found. This particular Spatha is inspired by a design that dates back to the 3rd and 4th Centuries, perfect for reenactment personas or character ideas from that time period. Carbon steel is renowned for its strength and durability. The unsharpened, double-edged blade is also forged with a distal taper, getting gradually thinner from the base down to the tip for a more favorable balance. There are two fullers down the length of the blade, removing excess weight and strengthening the edges for sparring and reenactment combat.

Down the length, the entire hilt is carved brown wood with a ridged handle and carved rings securing your grip. This wooden handle lends a natural, vintage finish to the sword’s design. Like true Roman cavalry swords from history, this handle accommodates a one-handed grip for maneuverability and control. The guard and the pommel are oval to keep your grip from slipping.

This Nydam Spatha comes with a wooden scabbard wrapped in leather. The topmount of the scholar is hammered brass. Just underneath the topmount is a tied wooden suspension loop for sliding onto most belts. You can hold it straight up and down like a real historical legionary. Please note this sword does not come with a sword belt. At the bottom, the endmount, also called the chape, ends in three buttons for added detail.

Enter an Age of War

Wield this long Roman sword and step into the tumultuous era of chaos and destruction that plagued the Western Roman Empire. The types of characters you can equip with this sword are only limited by your imagination. This time of reckoning is a great stage for a wide variety of characters from the Roman Empire, their allied foederati tribes, or the barbarian hordes arrayed against them. Hold the line as a legionary or embark on raids as a warrior from the barbarian hordes. You can embody the roles of Franks, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, and even Anglo-Saxon warriors invading from distant lands. As a foederati vassal, you can become a prominent warrior fighting for Western Rome.

Great for infantry and cavalry alike, the wooden hilt allows you to wield it one-handed while your off-hand remains free for a shield or reins. For history buffs and sword collectors, this Migration Period sword is a worthy choice for your collection. Display it with your other swords as a reminder of the Western Roman Empire’s collapse and the rich history surrounding it.
