With the discovery of metal, spears became much more effective. In just about all cultures metal butt caps were used to protect the base of the shaft and to add balance to the overall weapon. This butt cap can be used for any spear since the beginning of the Iron Age. Well made from mild steel, this butt cap has a generic look that does not represent any one specific time or place, so it can be for any period. It measures 5 inches, overall.
Made by Windlass.

If you have a spear, you need an end cap. It just completes the rig. It’s a nice piece of steel and is machined quite well. I mounted this to a pole by sanding it to shape. Didn’t have an appropriate power tool so I did it by hand with a 3” 100 grit sanding belt. Fixed it to the end by tapping it onto the pole. Doesn’t seem to need any screws to hold it on. Finished it up with some protective machine oil to prevent rusting. Recommend this for your spear project.
