If you’re looking for a statue that reminds you of going off the beaten path, then this Bronze Hannibal Barca Statue is the perfect choice. Bring home the pride of Carthage’s military history, a man who fought against impossible odds to achieve stunning victories.
A Tribute to the Barcid Dynasty
Hannibal Barca, Carthage’s most accomplished general and a man widely renowned for his unorthodox tactics, was a key antagonist to the early Roman Republic throughout the Punic Wars. This hand-painted Hannibal statue is crafted from cold cast bronze, and it depicts the great general clad in royal Carthaginian armor. The Carthaginian general wears a realistic pseudo-Attic type helmet with a realistically carved plume. The plume also has carved hair texture. The plume on top of the helmet runs from the top of the head to the back. The base supporting the plume has intricate floral designs carved into it. Intricately embossed filigree decorates the top of the helmet. More floral designs adorn the brow of the helmet. Further back, a studded band forms the helmet’s tail. Hannibal Barca’s face has realistic facial hair texture. A textured fur mantle adorns the cloak of this Carthaginian general statue. Draped across the chest of this statue are two realistically carved leather baldrics. One is across the shoulders and the other runs diagonally down the chest to hold the knife at the waist. Both of these baldrics have realistic buckles and studs carved into them.
Moving down the length, this Hannibal Barca depiction wears a trefoil-like cuirass and harness with intricate details carved into it. In the upper right and left of the chest, elephant heads with horned headwear peer out with their trunks meeting in the middle. Beneath the elephants are multi-headed hydras from Greek mythology. In between the hydras is the visage of Baal Karnaim, also known as Baal of the Two Horns, a prominent deity among Carthaginian culture. Intricate lilies are carved into the harness around Hannibal’s torso. Hannibal wears pteruges, or a studded soldier’s belt from Greek origins. This clever little detail references Carthage’s origins as a Greek Phoenician colony in North Africa. He also wears bracelets with serpents embossed on them. In his left hand he holds a Phoenician kopis dagger, sheathed but at the ready. The scabbard has realistic bands carved into it to look like it’s attached to the belt. Underneath the cuirass, the statue is wearing a realistically carved tunic. It’s also wearing a pair of trousers that are textured to look like real fabric. Adorning the statue’s legs are a pair of intricately designed greaves. The greaves have the likeness of Baal depicted with two horns. Intricate floral patterns are carved on either side of the greaves. Underneath Hannibal’s carved sandals is a base that is textured to look like rock and stone. The words “HANNIBAL BARCA” are written on a plaque in the front.
