Archery is not solely for adults. Not anymore, at least. This Youth Linen Backed English Longbow echoes the overall look and feel of our adult version, in a smaller size, that is perfectly made for the young archer to own, shoot with, and enjoy! The bow is finely crafted, being made from red oak and then backed with linen for an added layer of strength and durability. With its flat back and round belly, this bow recreates the look of a classic bow, which would have been favored by archers throughout the middle ages, thanks to its combination as a readily available and highly effective tool and weapon. This particular model, being designed for children, is offered in one draw weight, which tends to vary between, and around 10 and 25 lbs. The weight varies based on construction, and we will send what we have (if you want a specific weight, it is best to call and see what we have available). The bow also has a maximum draw length of 24 inches, and should not be drawn past that, making this a perfect bow for youth archers and child archers of any age. The grip is wrapped for a comfortable hold, and the bow is designed to be a shoot off the hand style bow. Included with the bow is a bow string and a bow stringer, for ease of use. The bow is permanently finished, and requires no maintenance, other than regular care and proper storage. This bow is made for young, beginner archers, and is perfect for target practice, youth events, and competitions (so long as the bow meets all criteria and rules for entry).
Remember to always unstring your bow when you are not using it. Never fire the bow without an arrow, and never pull your bow back further than the max draw length (which, on this bow, is 24 inches). Store your bow horizontally, in a cool, dry place. Never store it outside. Never string your bow backwards, and do not leave it strung for overly long periods of time.
How to Tell your Draw Length and Draw Weight:
Draw Length: Your Draw Length measurement is how far you draw the bow back before releasing it. To find your draw length stand and extend both arms out in front of you, measure from your chest to the end of your middle finger and subtract two inches. This will find your approximate draw length. Please note that this bow should not be used by an archer with a draw length greater than 24 inches.
Draw Weight: This is how heavy (in pounds) you will be pulling the bow back at your specified draw length. A draw weight of 16 lbs. at a 24 inch draw length means that you, or your child, will pull back 16 pounds of force when the bow is fully drawn. This is harder to determine a starting point, but these bows, made for youths, are all designed to have a draw weight appropriate for younger archers.
