The Pope Sword – properly called the Papal Sword – is not one sword but a series of swords presented over the centuries to Princes and Military Commanders by the presiding Pope of the time. The Papal Sword, along with a Papal cap were presented for achievements to Defenders of the faith. The first recorded Papal Sword was presented by Pope Urban VI to the Gonfalonier of Luca in 1386. The last one presented was in 1823 from Pope Leo XII to the Duke of Angouleme. The last Papal Sword made was never presented and resides in the Vatican. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church. He is believed by Catholics to fulfill this role as the Successor of Saint Peter, also making him Vicar of Christ. The Pope mini sword is a fine miniature of the larger sword produced by Art Gladius. The Pope blade is made of stainless steel and in much detail as its larger counterpart. The Art Gladius Pope mini sword is a perfect accent for the home or office. Pope miniature swords are great for weddings, parties, medieval fairs, and other events.
