The Merc Cuirass is a unique creation combining leather and steel. The main portion of the breastplate is made of 18 gauge steel and has a nice shiny, polished finish. It has rolled edges for increased safety. The shoulder area of the breastplate and the entire backplate are made up of 7-8 ounce medium weight leather.
Together, the breastplate and brown backplate form the cuirass. The cuirass is available in two sizes. The brown straps that connect the breastplate to the backplate make the cuirass even more adjustable.
There are small steel pegs along the fauld of the breastplate. These are intended for attaching the matching Merc Tassets, which are sold separately.

- Keep away from water. Clean with a metal polish and re-oil occasionally to properly maintain the armour. Use Leather care products for the fittings.

Moves well, breathes as fine as any steel armor. The buckle and strap placement is a bit odd on the sides but as long as you saddle knot it like the model in the picture it fits well and can be easily fastened without the need of help.

This thing is awesome. It doesn’t restrict your movement at all and is comfortable to wear. I wore it for 15 hours straight without any issue. It doesn’t breathe at all however, which is of course to be expected from a sheet of metal. I wore it over a gambeson and immediately overheated, which I solved by removing the sleeves from my gambeson which got me to the perfect temperature.
I hit the ground a number of times while using it and it actually protected me from someone swinging a larp hammer too hard as well as protecting me from someone falling on me. Most importantly, it looks amazing.
I got the large/extra-large option. I am 6’1 and weigh 210 pounds and it perfectly fit me over my gambeson. The straps seemed like they were too long but I just cut them down a bit. You can also just fold them back into the buckle with the available loops. Also, if you use it in the rain, make sure you dry it off. If any rust appears, use WD40 and a Brillo pad to clean the rust spots off, then lube the whole thing up with gun oil like it is a cast iron pan and just let it sit in the off season.
