The earliest written record of Herne, the spirit hunter from Windsor forest, was in The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare. This Herne the Hunter with Deer and Wolf is an outstanding addition to any mythology display. Thought to have been a disgraced huntsman or a poacher, the ghost of Herne is seen with antlers or horns on his head. This bronze Herne figure wears a pelt around his waist and decorative armbands in addition to the antlers protruding from his head. His long hair is worn loose and he has a trimmed beard and mustache. A red snake hangs from around his neck. He carries a bow and a horn. The wolf paces alongside him on the left. The fawn is seated to his right. Excellent for fans of British folklore and nature spirits, this Herne the Hunter with Deer and Wolf makes a stately gift or home decor idea.
