Renaissance Daggers

In many ways, the dagger followed the same progression as the sword. Throughout the Renaissance, swords became thinner, and so too did the daggers, although this did not change the function of a dagger one bit. In fact, it just made Renaissance daggers more deadly, as you can see by looking at any one of the fine specimens located here at Dark Knight Armoury. Daggers were an important part of Renaissance life, especially when you consider that most peasants and lower-class citizens were not allowed to carry things like swords or axes, so the dagger was all they had. As time went on, Renaissance daggers continued to evolve, and as they did, they began to take on different functions. Traditional Renaissance daggers got thinner but never lost their edge, serving as utility knives as much as self-defense tools to both the rich and the poor alike. Other daggers, like the Venetian stiletto, lost its edge completely, transforming into a penetrative spike that made older armors like mail and even some plate completely negligible, as the needle just slipped right through the small gaps. And of particular interest to swordsmen was the main gauche, which developed as an off-handed weapon for those who wanted to both properly parry and maintain a superior offence. As you can see, the Renaissance affected more than just art and science, having affected the evolution of the dagger as well. And here at Dark Knight Armoury, you can find a number of great Renaissance daggers that excel at a variety of different tasks, making them great for princes, paupers, and everyone that falls in-between.
