Functional Fencing Rapiers

The rapier evolved from the typical cut and thrust swords of the 16th and 17th century. Unlike most swords, though, the rapier experienced an immense level of variation. Here at Dark Knight Armoury, we pride ourselves on offering a wide assortment of functional fencing rapiers, in as many styles as we could gather, all to give a swordsman their choice of preferred blades. Swords, and weapons in general, have always been subject to slight variation, but none were quite as varied as the rapier. At its height, the rapier came in hundreds of different styles, with each design ranging in terms of hilt style, hilt size, blade length, and more! The rapier was primarily a thrusting weapon, and because of this, many sometimes believe that the rapier lacked an edge entirely. On some rapiers, this is true. On others, it is not. Different styles of rapiers featured edges, while others did not. It all boiled down to the style of the blade and what region it came from, as many regions had different styles of combat with the rapier and thus, required different specifications from their sword. All of the rapiers you will find here, no matter if they are a swept hilt or a cupped hilt, an edged blade or an edgeless blade, are fully functional, which means that they will stand up quite nicely to the rigors of classic, historical fencing. As an added benefit, many of these swords, with their historic looks, are great display pieces, so even if you are not a practicing swordsman, you can enjoy the beautiful look and feel of these weapons just be displaying them in your home. If you are a swordsman, though, you will just love Dark Knight Armourys selection of functional fencing rapiers, because here, you are sure to find the exact sword that suits your personal style of rapier-based fencing.
