Medieval Halberds were very effective weapons in their time. Skilled soldiers on the ground could easily take down their oppenents on horseback. Halberds have three parts to the head, there is the bladed, the spike and the hook. The Bladed looks very similar to an axe head, this was used in a cutting or hacking motion. The spike was use as a thrusting weapon, just like a spear. And the hook which is on the back side of the blade was used to take down armed opponents on horseback as they rode by, you could just snag them off. It was like three weapons in one.
